Acquisition of Norðanfiskur in Akranes.
Our Journey
In 2020, a group of investors acquired Norðanfiskur in Akranes, a long-standing manufacturer of seafood products. In 2021, the acquisition of Eðalfiskur, a 35-year-old family-owned company in Borgarnes, followed. Together, these companies formed the foundation of our group. The parent company became known as Eðalfang.
Recognizing the growth potential of salmon, we aimed to become a leading producer in Iceland for both domestic and international markets. In 2022, we expanded with 101Seafood, Iceland’s top lobster importer, and invested heavily in state-of-the-art salmon processing technology. With support from investment fund Horn IV, we transformed our plant into one of the most advanced in the world—certified to the highest standards, sustainable, and designed to utilize every resource fully.
As exports proliferated, we rebranded as Borg Salmon, inspired by the historic settlement farm near our facility; Borg was home to legendary Viking warrior poet Egill Skallagrímsson. Borg Salmon represents innovation, quality, and a strong connection to Icelandic heritage.
